The increasing sophistication of digital technology has profoundly impacted most - if not all - industries. The powerful influence of change that accompanies digital disruption has most companies scrambling to re-invent their operations to accommodate the incredible threats and opportunities. This leads to the necessity to look at new business models, capital structures, and ways of interacting with customers and the workforce.

The pace of technology advancement and change shows no signs of diminishing anytime soon, with new discoveries on the rise and older ones being re-purposed for new applications. This brings a world of opportunities to those who would be "Men of the Sea", who are constantly looking to the horizon for changes in the climate, their world constantly moving and shifting underfoot.

Digital disruption is often presented as a technology issue, although technology is critical, planning your capability to confront such inevitable (often unexpected) change should be where effort and resources are focused. Nobody knows exactly how new emerging technology will affect a given market sector or industry, so the best use of resources is to focus on what you have today, your people, culture and skills to enable your organisation to adapt when confronted by digital disruption.
